Switch 2 GameCube controllers are gonna be up for grabs soon. If you’re one of those folks who nab an invite from the big N itself, mark your calendar for between May 8 and May 12. After that, May 13 is wide open for every Switch Online subscriber.
Imagine my surprise—I’m just doodling around online, and boom, I see the buzz about these controllers. Classic GameCube vibes, but now strutting wirelessly. Not absolutely necessary if you want to play GameCube classics on Switch 2, but come on, gotta have the real deal, right?
I’ve been thinking… Nintendo is always tossing us these curveballs with limited releases. Can’t just waltz into a store and snag one. Nope, these GameCube controllers are only through Nintendo itself. Invites are golden tickets, it seems. May 8 to May 12, that’s the window for lucky ducks. If you’re a Switch Online member but didn’t get an invite, hold tight until May 13. Quick tip: Don’t think of signing up for a trial to get in on this—it’s a no-go.
Mayhem is expected. Remember the Nintendo 64 controllers? Yeah, same tune—blink and you miss it. Interestingly, using a GameCube controller isn’t a must for playing the games on Switch 2, but I guess nostalgia hits hard. F-Zero GX, Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur 2 are waiting with the launch on June 5. And there’s chatter—Chibi-Robo, Fire Emblem, Luigi’s Mansion, and, oh, Pokemon Colosseum too, but no dates nailed down yet.
I can’t help but feel this urge to get one. Even if it’s purely for the tick-tock sound of those buttons. Nostalgia can be a real kicker, you know?
