So, Nintendo. You know, they’ve really outdone themselves with this Switch 2 thing. Just set a sales record, like, 3.5 million boxes in just four days since June 5—yesterday’s news, right? It’s like 760k more than the original Switch managed in March 2017. Crazy, huh?
“This is the best we’ve ever done in first four days,” they shout. Big words. But hey, they’re a fifth of the way to hitting 15 million units by March 2026 or something. Bold goals, my friend.
Even had a hiccup or two, not that it stopped anything. There was that blip with GameStop in New York, where—get this—silly staples were punching holes in screens. Replacement handed out, all’s well that ends well.
Over in the UK, people were unpacking their unsealed units—like, where’s my tape security? Weird, right? Some tape snafu apparently. Oh well, what can you do?
Then there’s the Switch 2 itself, a bit of a battery hog but hey, they’ve got these Joy-Con 2 controllers with optical sensors—basically using them like a mouse now, no kidding. The screen’s bumped up to 7.9 inches, 1080p, 120Hz refresh rate, blah blah blah.
Diving under the hood, they’ve got eight fancy ARM Cortex A78C cores, ARMv8 64-bit, with a slick custom Nvidia Ampere GPU. Throw in 12GB LPDDR5X memory and you’ve got 256GB storage, expandable to a full-blown 2TB with microSD Express. Kind of a nerdy paradise.
And, apparently, there’s some chatter about using M2 NVMe SSDs in that slot. DIY enthusiasts, grab your gloves.
Even with all the buzz, it’s still hanging out on shelves at GameStop, Best Buy—UK’s got plenty too. Who knows how long that’ll last.
