Welp. So there we were, Silksongers, reaching the end of yet another massive gaming gathering—Summer Game Fest 2025, to be exact—and yet, absolutely zilch from Team Cherry about that long-awaited Xbox Game Pass Metroidvania sequel. No fresh gameplay clips, release dates… nada. How disappointing, right?
Honestly, given how we’ve been starved of new Silksong stuff since way back in 2019, you’d think we’d be numb by now. But nope. This time, Geoff Keighley drove the sting deeper with a cheeky dig at all of us hopefuls during the show.
Yeah, so there he was, introducing Marvel Games’ 2025 Deadpool VR reveal, reading a “letter” from Wade Wilson. And guess what it said? Something like: “Skip that Silksong trailer and plug my groundbreaking VR game that’s gonna wow the industry.” Ouch. Wade Wilson has no chill, and neither does Geoff, apparently.
What hit hard is how little we’ve actually seen of Silksong over the years. Barely any trailers, and the whole indefinite delay in 2023. Yikes. We got that flimsy 2025 release promise back in April with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip on Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct. But nothing more from Team Cherry.
The hype for Silksong is sky-high thanks to the first Hollow Knight being, arguably, one of the best Metroidvania games out there. The lack of news only makes fans hungrier. It’s Elden Ring all over again, and I can feel the déjà vu.
To twist the knife further, there were recent tweaks on Silksong’s Steam page. This made many cling to the hope of a potential trailer drop, release date, or (I dare say) a surprise launch at the Game Fest. But here we are, empty-handed once more.
There’s still this faint glimmer of hope—the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase is set for Sunday, June 8 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. And oh boy, am I latched onto that sliver of optimism.
Xbox’s summer presentations always spotlight upcoming gems for their systems and Game Pass. Silksong launching on Game Pass from day one? That’d be a big win for Microsoft’s reveal card. Even if Aaron Greenberg, Xbox’s games marketing VP, warned us not to “overhype it too much,” there’s still hope. I mean, a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date would be a juicy surprise.
No, I’m not expecting something wild like a shadow drop, but c’mon, there’s gotta be a release date announcement. But if we get nothing? Ah, well. I’m familiar with letdowns. It’s tough being a Bloodborne fan, after all.
