I’m sitting here, trying to make sense of all this. So, here goes. Just today, during one of those PlayStation State of Play things — which, by the way, totally snuck up on me. Were these always on a Thursday? Anyway, PlayStation Studios, Marvel Games, and that awesome team Arc System Works are doing something wild. They’re bringing out this totally new Marvel fighting game. It’s called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Yeah, I can’t help but hear some epic movie trailer music just saying the name. We’ve gotta wait until 2026, though. A lifetime, right?
And get this, they’re putting it on PS5 and PC — both Steam and the Epic Games Store, which probably means a lot to people who actually understand PC stuff. I’m more of a “hit power and see what happens” type myself.
Here’s where it gets spicy: they’ve got all these Marvel big shots in there. I’m talking Captain America, Iron Man — the usual gang. Oh, and Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider! That last one got me a bit more hyped than I’d like to admit. And the way they move around, it’s supposed to be like straight out of the comics. Makes you wonder what kind of research these designers were into, right?
I stumbled upon some quote from Kazuto Sekine, cool title and all — Game Director and Lead Battle Designer. Wonder how they fit that on a business card. He’s going on about how you don’t have to juggle learning five characters just to play decently. It’s just pick one and go nuts. You hit a few buttons, and boom, it’s like fireworks on your screen. Imagine my two left thumbs trying to master that.
Oh, and top this — the battles are not just you and a buddy against the world, it’s 4v4. Yep. More chaos, more power, or maybe just a fancy way to blow up my screen. Sekine mentioned something about it being the best way to make “over-the-top” moments. Guess he means like jaw-drop sort of stuff? I should’ve asked him.
Also, there’s this Project Defiant from Sony about some wireless fight stick. I heard “ultra-low latency” and nodded along like I knew what it meant. And, don’t worry, they thought about old-school wired folks too with a USB-C thing.
Uh, anyway, I got sidetracked. Why was I talking about this? Ah, right — Marvel fans, gear up. Start your countdowns or whatever people do to keep sane until a game drops. 2026 feels so far, but maybe by then, I’ll have a clue how to play.
