Okay, so here’s the deal—last year, everyone was buzzing about how Apple might get into the whole VR motion controller game with the Vision Pro. Yeah, the one everyone’s talking about, mostly ’cause it’s expensive and ambitious and everything. And the kicker? They might team up with Sony, of all people, to use those PSVR 2 Sense Controllers. Mind blown, right?
Anyway, fast forward, and 9to5Mac is like, “Yeah, this thing is actually happening,” and news might drop as soon as next week. Or not. It’s kinda up in the air—like when you plan a party and then realize you forgot to send out invites. Oops.
These folks are saying visionOS is gonna support not just those Sony controllers, but PlayStation and Xbox gamepads too. Imagine that mix—a whole gaming mashup. Or a tech crossover episode we didn’t know we needed.
And there’s this whole bit about Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference—WWDC, if you’re in the loop. Apparently, they’re revealing some cool stuff about visionOS 26. What happened to the earlier versions? Who knows. Tech companies and their names, right?
But, oh yeah, Vision Pro’s been kinda weird since it dropped in February 2024. At $3,500, you’d think it would do more, but so far it’s all about hand-tracking and Bluetooth things like gamepads and—get this—keyboards. Not exactly cutting-edge for a headset. XR developers have had to rethink their whole strategy or something, which seems like a real headache.
So, the million-dollar—or $3,500—question: will PSVR 2 controllers make Vision Pro the next big gaming thing? Probably not. At least not right now. People are calling it a “spatial computer” instead of just a game console. I mean, that’s cool. But also, not like a major selling point for your average gamer.
And here’s the backstory: Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who seems to know everyone’s business, says Apple cozied up to Sony early 2024 to make this partnership happen. Which is kinda funny since Apple was all, “Nah, we’re not doing VR controllers,” just a few months back.
Oh, and if you’re keen to watch the WWDC keynote—the one where they might spill all these beans—it’s on June 9th. 10 AM PT, mark your calendars! It’s streaming on Apple’s YouTube Channel.
So yeah, lots going on. Maybe too much. But also maybe not enough? Who knows. Stay tuned, I guess.
