The creative minds behind Skyblivion, the ambitious modding endeavor that is reshaping The Elder Scrolls IV using Skyrim’s engine, have exciting news. They’ve completed the intricate task of landscaping every nook and cranny of the Cyrodiil map. While there’s still more work ahead to meet their anticipated 2025 release, this marks a significant leap forward.
In a recent tweet, the team shared, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass. Next up: Improve previously worked areas of the map to bring them to higher standards.” It’s a testament to their dedication, showing they’re committed to elevating the game’s environment to a higher caliber.
This progress came hot on the heels of an update video last month, where the modders mentioned they were finalizing the world map, focusing on the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s eastern edge. Check that off the list!
But, as the modders have indicated, finishing the landscape is just one piece of the puzzle. Plenty of technical tasks remain, such as finalizing navmeshing to ensure NPCs can smoothly traverse these revamped lands. Without this, we’d end up with a game world where characters might get hopelessly caught on terrain—far worse than the occasional hiccup we see in vanilla Skyrim or Oblivion.
Moreover, last month, the developers disclosed they are still heavily involved in crafting interiors, especially prioritizing quest locations that need careful design rather than straightforward interiors. Additionally, at that time, six quests were yet to begin development.
