EA and DICE just dropped the first-ever look at Battlefield 6, and let me tell you, it was right on cue. The trailer, which hit YouTube a few moments ago, follows the announcement of the game’s title—impressive timing, really. Now, while we did get a glimpse of its style and setting, plus a peek at the main factions, you’d think fans would be buzzing, right? Nah, not quite.
That said, and I found this odd, no release date was hinted at. The trailer fixated on the single-player campaign—spanning parts of the US and other global spots—while showcasing this enemy faction, Pax Armata. Sounds ominous, doesn’t it?
The multiplayer, which we’re all itching to learn about, won’t debut until Thursday, July 31. Rumor has it, it’ll be an event with developers from the Battlefield Studios teams giving us the grand tour of multiplayer. Hopefully, that’s when we’ll hear about that battle royale mode everyone whispers about. Oh, and in classic Call of Duty fashion, streamers will be splashing live gameplay from all corners of the earth. Pretty wild, huh?
While an open beta is expected—by the way, wouldn’t this normally be the big scoop?—we didn’t get fresh buzz on it today. All past Battlefield Labs tests were limited, keeping things pretty hush-hush.
So here’s something itching in the back of my mind: will they solve the whole debate on locking weapons to classes? DICE appears set to shake things up by letting all classes access the game’s arsenal. A twist that’s ruffled a few feathers among die-hard fans. They’ve got this Signature Weapon incentive thing, but folks aren’t convinced it’ll cut it.
Now, the beta will feature playlists with these Signature Weapons locked, and another with free-for-all weapon use. It’s like a live lab for developers to gauge what tickles our fancy most.
Lastly, Battlefield 6’s success could mean everything for EA, especially if they aim for that jaw-dropping target of wooing 100 million players. After the Battlefield 2042 saga, I suppose they need to pull out all the stops. So yeah, buckle up—the next few months are gonna be crucial.
