It has been announced that the release has been postponed to sometime in 2025.
For those familiar with survival games, The Alters will offer plenty of familiar mechanics like crafting, resource management, and base-building. However, where it really shines is in its unique premise. You play as Jan Dolski, the only survivor of a crash on an alien planet. To survive and manage your spacecraft, you must create clones of yourself.
These clones, known as ‘Alters,’ are partially formed from a mysterious substance on this alien world, and each represents a different turning point in Jan’s life. It’s a captivating blend of concepts, and though we were originally supposed to get the full experience in the first quarter of this year, 11 Bit Studios has informed us this won’t be the case.
In a delightful note addressed to Jan from his employer, Ally Corp, the developers shared that the upcoming PC game has been delayed further into 2025. The reason given for this postponement is to allow for further refinement, ensuring everything meets their high standards. Given the ambitious nature of the game and the new direction this represents for the studio, they’ve likely encountered numerous unexpected challenges in perfecting The Alters.
Managing the different personas of Jan’s clones also introduces some light diplomacy into the mix. Each clone has a distinct outlook, shaped by different life choices, such as changing careers for marriage or standing up against abuse. It’s easy to see how these varied perspectives could lead to some combustible situations when they’re all working together on different tasks.
