Oh boy, so here’s the scoop. Beat Saber’s pulling the plug on updates for PSVR and PSVR 2. Just dropped the news outta nowhere. Was scrolling through X (don’t even ask me why I call it that), and bam, Beat Games hit us with a curveball. No more updates for PS4/PS5 versions. Like, they’re looking ahead, planning some “big leap.” Whatever that means, right?
Now, don’t freak out. If you’re glued to that headset, you can still play and buy Beat Saber on PSVR after today. All that old DLC you splurged on? Still there, still yours. Music packs before June 18th? Yep, they’re hanging around too. Kinda sucks though, Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’ is the last one. Seriously. Abracadabra.
And multiplayer? Well, that’s taking a long nap, starting January 21st, 2026. Honestly, feels like yanking a toy outta a kid’s hands. Multiplayer was their 2020 baby, and now… it’s like, bye-bye on PlayStation land. Cross-play never even landed, sad trombone and all that jazz.
Quest—Meta’s golden child, racking up over 10 million sales—gets all the goodies. Steam’s cool too, no changes there. Seems like Meta’s just vibing with its own crew. Did you know Meta’s been buddies with PSVR since 2018? But this move? Totally ditched the ecosystem.
Sony’s been kinda chill, or maybe just snoozing, with PSVR 2 exclusives since February 2023. It’s like, devs are ghosting PSVR 2 for bigger crowds on Quest and SteamVR. Heck, you can now use PSVR 2 for PC games with a wired adapter, and the controllers with Apple Vision Pro. It’s all so… mixed up, you know? Like who knew we’d end up here?
