Review of Fireball 2 for PlayStation 5

Y’know, I dived into this game called Fireball 2. It’s by Radiangames — they really went all out with neon colors and whatnot on the PS5. Anyway, the gist is, you’re controlling this, uh, fireball, obviously, and the plan is to dodge and bomb enemies. Yeah, weird combo but kinda works. Kinda.

So, you gotta bait these baddies near bombs, so when they go off—boom, score boost city! I guess you get this rush from barely scraping by when, like, a gazillion enemies all swarm at once. It’s nuts. Sometimes I feel my hands trying to dodge stuff as I read this, like it’s bizarrely immersive. My reflexes were pretty much toast initially. Where was I going with this?

Ah, right. There are two game modes. Core starts you off easy, then levels up, and in emerges this ‘zen’ vibe. Which sounds like a paradox when you think about it because — chaos. But then! Chaos Mode crashes the party. Enemies are slower but sneakier, so you’ve gotta play this weird game of tag and avoid bombs. Maybe it’s a metaphor for life, or maybe the designer just had some wild dreams. No clue.

Moving your fiery orb around is, well, easy enough with a joystick—wait, do people still call it that? Whatever, I’m old school. Boosting with random button mashing feels kinda reckless, though. Almost like if you could just boost into an entirely new enemy mess. A rookie mistake I made way too often. Oops.

Pro tip: When you take out enough enemies with your bombs, there’s this thing called Nova. Sounds spacey, right? It’s like dealing heavy damage plus giving your fireball some character boosts. Instead of choosing upgrades like shopping for gadgets, it just happens—faster, stronger, blah blah. I caught myself wishing real life offered these power-ups.

Oh! Legally obligated to mention trophies. There’s some Platinum one and a whole collection worth hunting. Collecting these is a nostalgia trip back to my childhood treasure hunts, somehow less sticky with fewer frogs. Anyway, back to trophies: requires you to survive different waves, upgrade stuff, and basically obliterate enemies in droves. Simple goals, ambitious execution. You get the idea.

Anyway—wait, what was I saying? Oh yes, this chaotic fluorescent ride is out there for $6.99, if the siren call of shiny things on PS5 appeals to you.
