In 2026, Gears of War is like, finally adding another chapter with this thing called Gears of War: E-Day. Sounds intense, right? Anyway, it’s set 14 years before the first game. I can’t keep the timeline straight, but it’s also 42 years before Gears 5. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, they’re going to totally witness the Locust’s invasion on Emergence Day. While Gears Reloaded is coming out to reintroduce old and new players—like a remake party or something—nobody really knows much about E-Day. Weird vibe there.
So, there’s just this one trailer of E-Day out now. It shows Marcus Fenix having a really bad time with a Locust Drone while Kalona gets stormed by the Locust Horde. Oh, and something about bringing back the Mark 1 Lancer Assault Rifle, aka the Retro Lancer. Gears junkies are freaking out. Basically, it’s the earliest game in the whole timeline, and while some of the newer weapons might not show up, there are still tons of iconic ones fans want back. They deserve it, right?
Which leads us to…what weapons should return? COG weapons have always been a big deal in Gears, that much I know. E-Day should bring back stuff from the Pendulum Wars era because it feels right. You know what might make a comeback? Mark 2 Lancer, Gnasher Shotgun, MX8 Snub Pistol, and others. And yeah, some of them have only popped up once or twice, but with the COG in its prime, it just makes sense.
As for Locust weapons, these guys were like underground warriors for 30 years before they popped out on Emergence Day. They were fighting Lambent creatures that were extra nasty. While a lot of their stuff was scavenged, they did have their own iconic arsenal. I’m talking Hammerburst Rifle, Boltok Pistol, and the list goes on. During E-Day, they should be fully loaded and ready to show off—at least, that’s what fans want.
The UIR weapons—oh yeah, almost forgot—they might make an appearance too. It’s around the end of the Pendulum Wars, so maybe we’ll see some UIR stuff. Modern Gears games have been sprinkling in UIR stuff here and there. Early missions might have Marcus facing off against UIR remnants, or maybe they’ll be fighting Locust too. The Booshka Grenade Launcher, Markza Mk 1, and a few others could come back. Makes it all very wild to think about.
By the way, if you’re curious, Gears of War: E-Day will roll out on PC and Xbox. And it’s being whipped up on Unreal Engine 5, which sounds pretty fancy. Can’t wait to see how this all pans out. Who even knows how it’ll all come together?
