‘Counter-Strike’ Gets an Unofficial VR Port for Quest & Pico 4 by Team Beef

Ah, Counter-Strike 1.6 — remember those days? I used to play it religiously, back when my computer was as loud as a jet engine. Anyway, here’s the weird part: now it’s coming to VR. Yup, the real thing. Like, slap on a Quest or Pico headset, and you could be right back in that world, but it’s all thanks to this crew called Team Beef. They’ve got a knack for dragging classic games into VR. You know, like Tomb Raider and Duke Nukem 3D. Pretty cool, huh?

So here’s the scoop: they’re working on this unofficial port, which basically means Valve didn’t give a thumbs up, but who’s complaining? Apparently, it runs on this Xash3D FWGS engine. Is that a real thing? Sure sounds fancy. This engine is like the cousin of the one-half-life’s built on — the GoldSrc engine, if I got that right. There’s also this other thing about Velaron’s multiplatform client. Not gonna lie, lost me there for a second.

What’s wild is they’re aiming for cross-play and some server creation magic, right in VR. That seems ambitious. And this thing called 6DoF motion controls?
