Wow, so guess what? I found myself knee-deep in nostalgia today. The Strong National Museum of Play or something—I mean, how fun does that sound?—just added four huge video games into their Hall of Fame. We’re talking Defender, GoldenEye 007, Quake, and Tamagotchi. Yep, the little egg critters that beeped at you constantly.
So, they had this whole lineup for the 2025 nominees too. I mean, some games I barely remember, like Frogger and, yeah, Age of Empires. Oh, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was in there! Surprised it didn’t make it. Weird, right?
Apparently, these chosen four—call them the lucky ones—have majorly shaped pop culture and gaming as we know it. That’s at least what The Strong says in press releases and all. They look at stuff like how long games have been around, how far their influence has reached across different countries, and how iconic they are. Quake made it in; Doom was already there since 2015, so no shocker there.
And the judges, or maybe it was the curators—I can never remember the difference—explain why these specific games changed the world. Like, all serious about how they broke new ground or whatever. Gaming history, but for your thumbs.
Oh! And 49 games got into this hall since 2015. Little trivia: last year, they brought in classics like Asteroids and SimCity. Imagine a game about organizing a city being fun? But here we are.
Honestly, kind of makes me want to dust off my old consoles.
