God bless Yuji Horii for, well, never quite keeping things on the down-low.
So, picture this: a comic convention in Napoli, Italy. You’d think it would be all pasta and wine, right? But nope. There’s Yuji Horii, the mastermind behind Dragon Quest, casually letting slip that maybe—just maybe—Chrono Trigger’s getting a remake for its 30th anniversary. Yeah, folks there went wild when he dropped that little hint. The guy literally mumbled something, and then bam—the translator tried to play it cool with a classic “you heard nothing.” But, you know, cats out of bags and all that.
This isn’t even new for Horii. Back in July 2015, the man was like a one-person leak factory. He basically told everyone about the localization of Dragon Quest VII and VIII on 3DS—both were already ancient news in Japan by then. And get this: he even mentioned Dragon Quest XI for the “NX” before anyone knew it was the Switch. Like, why keep secrets, right?
Anyway—or wait, should I say moving on?—March 11 hits. Big day. The 30th birthday of Chrono Trigger in Japan, and Square Enix teases more celebrations. But specifics? Zip. Nada. It’s like waiting for a train without a timetable, exciting and frustrating all at once.
