NVIDIA is currently delving into an issue that has emerged with their latest GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs. Over recent days, numerous reports have come in regarding these GPUs, as well as the RTX 5090D variant popular in China, seemingly becoming unusable.
For a few days now, users have been sharing their frustrations as their RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D graphics cards have been “bricked.” Despite various troubleshooting attempts, many are finding that the problem persists. A handful have reported some degree of success with unconventional solutions, yet for the majority, their GPUs remain stubbornly problematic. Given the growing prevalence of this issue, NVIDIA has acknowledged it. According to PC Gamer, NVIDIA has issued this statement:
“We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series.”
Though details are scant at this point, NVIDIA’s response reveals that they are aware and taking steps to address the situation. For those unfamiliar, the problems appeared when several users updated their drivers, only to be met with a black screen instead of their usual display. The dilemma seems widespread, with users unable to resolve it even by reverting to previous driver versions. Unfortunately, this left the GPUs unrecognizable by their computers. Attempts at resetting the BIOS or checking through Device Manager and BIOS yielded no results for some.
As it stands, the precise cause of these issues remains a mystery. Initial theories suggest it might be due to architectural or driver compatibility issues, rather than a problem with the actual hardware. Until NVIDIA releases a more detailed report, users facing these bricked GPUs are left in a bind without a permanent fix in sight.
