Sure thing, here it goes:

Man, you ever get that feeling when you stumble on something new, and you’re like, “Why haven’t I heard of this before?” That was me with Blades of Fire. Got it from 505 Games and MercurySteam, and lemme tell ya, itβs an action-adventure set in some mythical land. Sounds wild, right? Anyway, back to my point. So, I dived into it, like I did way back with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 on the old PS3 (back in the day vibes) and Metroid Dread on Switch. Both of those had me hooked, so I was curious what this new gig had to offer.
Right, so there’s these ancient giant dudes called The Forgers. They’re like, ruling everything. But then, bam, apocalypse stuff happens. And before disappearing, they create humans to, kinda, take over. And fast forward a few thousand years, here we are.
You play as Aran de Lira. Fancy name, right? Firstborn of this commander dude. And thereβs this Queen Nerea, who’s, well, not the friendly sort. She turns all the steel to stone. Why? So only her creepy army can fight properly. It’s weird; it almost feels like living in a Game of Thrones episode. And you’re not alone β this kid, Adso de Zelk, tags along. He’s like a walking cheat sheet, knows stuff about enemies and puzzles. Handy, right?
Back to gameplay β crafting weapons is the name of the game! You find these Forge Scrolls and get to make your own gear. Makes you feel like some old school blacksmith. Funny how you got all these stats like weight and edge quality. Though I always wonder if they actually matter. Pretty sure thereβs some nerd out there who knows the exact math behind it. Yβknow the type.
And hey, you got three difficulty modes: Bronze, Iron, and Steel. It’s like “choose your pain.” I mean, all I wanted was a chill experience, but nope. The game wanted to challenge me at Steel. I did it, but barely, haha.
Controls are… a lot. Dodging, slashing, blocking β your fingers will get a workout. But when it clicks, man, it feels good. Almost like playing a rhythm game sometimes. And speaking of rhythm, your weapon wears down as you fight, so gotta keep an eye on that. Really makes you think twice about fighting that rat with your fancy new sword.
The enemies? Thereβs over 50! Crazy, right? Each with their own quirks. I remember the first time I went up against a skeleton β thoughtlessly poked it with a spear. Letβs just say, lesson learned. Skeletons laugh at spears; you gotta hammer them to bits.
And trophies, folks! Oh, boy. The gameβs littered with them. Platinum, Bronze, Silver… itβs like treasure hunting but with achievements. I gotta say, parrying 10 consecutive attacks without getting hit? That was not a good day for me.
So yeah, Blades of Fireβs trying its hardest to be epic. But isnβt that the fun part? You stumble, learn, get sidetracked (often!), but eventually feel like a legend. Or at least, not an epic failure. Itβs up on PS5 with the price tag that makes you gulp a bit, but hey, thereβs a pre-order discount. Just saying.
Oh, quick heads up: I got my copy from 505 Games for this review. Gotta keep it real, right?
