Alright, so picture this: Google might just be about to throw some fancy smart glasses into the ring at their Google I/O shindig next week. These things could be aiming right at Ray-Ban Meta Glasses — like, trying to give them a run for their money, I guess?
At some promo gig for Google I/O, Sameer Samat from Android let slip these glasses — kind of casually, like he wasn’t talking about ‘em directly, but more like, “Hey, folks at the event will see some cool Android stuff.” And he didn’t even have to say much. Just put on the glasses. It’s like when you wanna show off a new toy without being too obvious about it.
So, in this sleuth-style move, I basically zoomed in on a YouTube pic. You know, just casual detective stuff, and these glasses look an awful lot like Ray-Ban’s Wayfarers. There’s this camera thing perched on the left side — like it’s casually trying to blend in. Probably.
Oh, and this LED light is there too. I mean, it screams, “Yo, I’m recording!” — so everyone knows when the video shenanigans are happening. Maybe they’re keeping up with the Meta Glasses, or trying to outdo them in a low-key way?
And get this, the glasses have these chunky arms. Like, pretty beefy, probably ‘cause they stuffed them with battery bits and techy processor stuff. Samat hinted at something like an Android XR thing running the show. Maybe. But who knows—there’s this tiny gap near his ear, possibly for sound? Or it’s just a button playing hide and seek?
On a side note, Apple’s reportedly cooking up their own techy specs, according to Bloomberg. They’re throwing a custom processor in the mix, from what I’ve heard. Is it a race? Only time will tell.
Fast forward to May 20th or 21st — that’s when Google I/O happens. Livestreams, keynotes, all the tech jazz you’d expect. Android XR might get a spotlight, and hey, if you’re keen, catch the whole shebang live on YouTube at 10 AM PT on the 20th. I’ll probably be watching — or maybe just zoning out. Who knows. Anyway, keep an eye out.
